This web site “Show Jumping Nostalgia” is a tribute to all great show jumping riders and horses. Here you will be able to read facts and stories about legendary riders and horses from the past, view photos and vintage videos.
I grew up in the show jumping world of the 1960′s and 1970′s, when the big heroes were riders like Alwin Schockemöhle, Hans Günter Winkler, Raimondo d’Inzeo, Harvey Smith, David Broome, Pierre Jonqueres d’Oriola, William Steinkraus and Nelson Pessoa just to name a few. There were legendary horses like Meteor, Halla, Gran Geste, Stroller, Mr Softee, Donald Rex and Deister. The riders and horses have changed, but the finest and most prestigious events were the same then as they still are today; Aachen, Hickstead, La Baule, Hamburg, Dublin for example. The glorious history and its fine traditions make show jumping such a fascinating sport. Today we have fantastic horses and riders too. I now adore stylish and skillful riders like Pénélope Leprévost and Kevin Staut. But I also feel nostalgia for the “good old days” and on this site I hope to be able to share some memories and stories, to present facts from the history books, show photos and video clips from the past (all photos and videos are copyright by their respective owners). I will try to post something at least twice a week, a lot from the 60′s, 70′s and 80′s, some from the 50′s and a little from the 90′s. So if anybody cares, feel welcome to a nostalgia trip!
