George Morris is considered one of the most influential riders and trainers in the equestrian sport. He has represented the United States in many international equestrian competitions as both a rider and coach. In 1959 his team won the gold medal in the Pan American Games. At the Olympic Games in Rome 1960 he was riding in the American team silver medal winning team consisting of Bill Steinkraus on Ksar d’Esprit, Frank Chapot on Trail Guide and George Morris on Sinjon.
Students like Conrad Homfeld, Leslie Burr, Melanie Smith, Lisa Jacquin, Anne Kursinski, Norman Dello Joio, Peter Leone and Chris Kappler trained by Morris. All of them became Olympic medal winners between 1984 and 2004. Since 2005 Morris has acted as chef d’equipe for the US show jumping team. He coached Beezie Madden on Authentic to individual silver medal at the World Championships in Aachen 2006 and the US team to silver medals. In 2008 he coached the US team that won the team gold medal at the Olympic Games in Hong Kong as well as the individual bronze medal winner, again Beezie Madden on Authentic.
